Super One Series Recaps Opening Rounds
The Super One Series organisation thank all teams, valued sponsors and the three hundred and seventy five drivers that have been enjoying the new look events so far in 2009. The new format sees the competition starting mid-day on Saturday, after a day and a half of practice period. The MSA British senior and junior kart championships for KF1 and KF3, the Association of British Kart Club National championships for Cadet and Rotax classes all have a timed qualifying session followed by two heats per driver. They progress into two points scoring finals. The ABkC National TKM championships enjoy four heats per driver, progressing to a grand final. Taking the Rotax series as an example, drivers are enjoying 28 minutes more competitive track time, ( almost 70 minutes race time in total), and 10 minutes more practice time (total of 80 minutes practice time) than last year. The changes were made after listening to competitor feedback. The longer timed races are proving very popular and the more relaxed timetabling allows for driver parades, tyre changing competitions and a walkout in front of the crowds accompanied by some glamorous grid-girls. When the grand finals are complete the top three drivers are paraded in front of the spectators, giving further photo-opportunities.

Visitors to the series can learn the inside story and the “who’s who” from the magnificent glossy programme. Those in the paddock can see live timing screens with plans to extend world wide on the internet. Results are available on Sunday evenings thanks to the newly purchased Super Sports Tempus system, allowing analysis and comparison of times and lap charts to be displayed. Marketing and Promotions Director John Hoyle (johnhoylejkh1@btinternet.com or 07774 646784) is eager to hear of any further suggestions for improvement. Every effort is made to ensure fair and level competition, at exceptional value for money. On-site fuel testing is carried out using gas chromatography techniques. Clutch eligibility is checked in the KF CIK classes with the new Unipro Unilog systems, the first and the only UK series to have such checks. The organisers have many decades of experience in providing a top line kart championship series.

The series started in 1983. Former British Touring Car champion Jason Plato learnt his skills at Super One meetings, as did Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Super 1 Cadet champion in 1995. Graduates of the series are too numerous to mention but include Indy 500 winners Dario Franchitti and Daniel Wheldon, Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson and David Coulthard. All the many British drivers who have enjoyed, and are still enjoying, the highest level of success at European and World championship level put their success down to racecraft honed at Super One meetings. You too can join this academy, if not this year, then next. Super One Series seeded race numbers are recognised by clubs. Do not settle for second best, race with the champions.

The Super One Series team wish all their customers a successful season, and invite anyone who has not yet seen one of the new look rounds to make a visit as soon as possible. Otherwise check out the recent newsletters and results pages as follows:
