WSK International Series - Round 3 Preview

The first part of 2009 WSK International Series tour will round off on next Sunday, April 5th . At the International Circuit 7 Laghi in Castelletto di Branduzzo, in province of Pavia, the “FIA Authorised” series will run its third 2009 round, completing that way the series of the three starting Italian rounds. From Castelletto, the WSK will therefore move to Europe, for the three rounds planned in Belgium, France and Spain, before the grand final scheduled at the circuit in Lonato, Brescia, in November. At the complex from Pavia, Super KF will be back to compete in the second of the four races scheduled for this class. The two remaining classes in the running, KF2 and KF3 will race instead their third round.

Among the very different settings that the WSK proposes for the season, the circuit in Castelletto di Branduzzo represents a very original choice: the complex, covering a surface of 220.000 sq.m., comprises a lake where it is possible to do sports like sport fishing and aquabike. The racetrack is 1.256 metre long, with straight stretches varying from 145 to 170 metres and has a paddock covering 12.000 sq.m. This track as well, will be divided into three sectors, in compliance with the WSK technical organization planning the partial time on every circuit.

Super KF will run its second seasonal round in Castelletto. At the opening round, Sauro Cesetti (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) from Ascoli as well as his official team Birel left their mark: the driver along with his team lead both Driver and EuroCup rankings, thanks to the clear win achieved in Muro Leccese. Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG-Maxter-Bridgestone) and Armand Convers (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone), concluding the same round in that order, both the race and on the podium, are ready to get their revenge. From his part, Kozlinski already showed to be rather pugnacious scoring a hit in the first Superpole of the year, in Muro Leccese. Therefore, in that extraordinary phase of the weekend, scheduled on Saturday afternoon, on April 5 th , he will be the driver to beat. Both Finnish Aaro Vanio (Maranello-Maxter-Bridgestone) and Czech Zdenek Groman (Maranello-Parilla-Bridgestone), being very fast but unlucky in the first race, are awaited now to make an attempt on his leadership.

Matteo Viganò (Birel-Parilla-Bridgestone) from Brescia, dominating the weekend in Sarno, turns up in Castelletto leading the ranking, along with his team MGM at the top in Eurocup. English Ben Cooper (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) that with his second place in the championship, is displaying such constant results to make the leader worry, follows him. Polish Karol Basz (RK-Parilla-Bridgestone), being the winner in the first round, on the contrary was very unlucky in Sarno missing his qualification in the Prefinal. No scoring, Basz is therefore fallen to the third position, above a forceful Felice Tiene (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) who finished second, behind Viganò, at the Circuit Napoli. In the following positions and keeping an eye on them, there are English Taylor Mackenzie (FA Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone) and Max Goff (Maranello-Maxter-Bridgestone), coming third in Sarno.

KF3 presents itself in Castelletto with a sparkling ranking as well: Russian Daniil Kvyat (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) back from his win in Sarno, is now the present leader in the championship, as well as his team Morsicani Racing leads the Eurocup. In Sarno, few hitches in the race precluded the previous leader Dutch Nick De Vries (Zanardi-TM-Dunlop) from scoring. Now he is followed closely by Raffaele Marciello from Verona (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) that came third in the race too. On the Campanian Circuit, Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) finished second at the end of an unbeatable recovery shooting him to the fourth place in the championship.
