| CIK-FIA European KF2 & KF3 Regional Qualifications Sizing Up to be Large |
| Article by: cikfia.com |
Brought forward from their usual mid-July date to the first weekend of May in order to have a better distribution of the European finals and World Cups over the season, the regional Qualifications to the CIK-FIA European KF2 and KF3 Championships promise to gather a very large number of participants. The 330 entries mark has in fact already been passed! And potential Competitors still have four days to enter on-line via the website of the CIK-FIA (www.cikfia.com) as the deadline for entries is set at 23rd March at midnight.
A distinctive feature of these Qualifications is that they are held on the same weekend, on 1st-3rd May 2009, at three different circuits because Europe has been divided into three regions for this occasion.
The so-called “northern” region Drivers from the Benelux, Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and Russia will appear on the Horensbergdam circuit at Genk (Belgium) and the so-called “western” region ones, on the Circuit Gabriel Thirouin at Angerville (France). This “western” region will see a confrontation between Britons, Irishmen, Spaniards, Portuguese, Swiss and Andorrans & the French Drivers. As for Germans, Italians and eastern Europeans of the so-called “central” region, they will race on the Autodrom Sosnova near Ceska Lipa (Czech Republic).
Together in these regional selections, KF2 and KF3 Drivers will however have separate Finals: the European KF3/Junior title reserved for 13 to 15 year-olds will be settled on 12 July at Zuera, near Saragossa (Spain), while KF2 Drivers will fight it out for their European title on 2nd August at Essay (France). These European Championships Finals will themselves be qualifying for the World Cups of both categories, which are scheduled for September at Sarno-Napoli (Italy) for KF3/Juniors and at Alcaniz (Spain) for KF2: it shows the importance of the regional Qualifications that will be organised in early May!
Because of the Competitors’ confirmed infatuation for these Qualifications, the CIK-FIA has decided to increase from 72 to 81 the number of Drivers eligible for the European Championship Final of their respective categories. To designate these 81 finalists, the number of Drivers selected per region will be calculated in proportion to the number of entries per qualifying event. |
