CIK-FIA European Super KF and KF1 Validated by FIA World Council
Article by: CIK-FIA
At the time of the closing of entries, on 16 March at midnight, 24 entries have been recorded by the CIK-FIA for the 2009 European Super KF & KF1 Championship.

As scheduled, the Championship will be held over three events, with the first round in Italy at Muro Leccese (on 19 April), followed by the Spanish round of Zuera (on 12 July) and by the final in France at Essay (on 2 August). “Race-by-race” entries will in fact be allowed for these last two events, particularly in order to provide local Drivers with an opportunity to partici¬pate in their event without having to enter the whole Championship, and Drivers having failed to qualify for the European KF2 Championship would thus be able to continue their season at the highest level in CIK-FIA competitions.

When he left the World Council meeting on 17 March in Paris, the President of the CIK-FIA, Luigi Macaluso, explained: “The FIA World Council, chaired by Max Mosley, has unanimously confirmed that the European Champion title would be fully validated and awarded even if the minimum number of 25 participants was not reached. The World Council has set at 20 the minimum number of entries required for the validation of the title. This is reassuring news for the Drivers and Teams who have entered, as well as for the Organisers. A reflexion on real cost reduction is obviously urgently needed, while safeguarding the interest of the rules and of the sport’s ethics. The CIK and the FIA are working on this issue and preparing a joint plan to be unveiled within the next few weeks.”

As a matter of fact, the KZ2 (125cc gearbox karts) category, the specificities of which allow better cost control and make it possible to prevent outrageous professionalization, is con¬siderably less affected: its European Championship will gather almost 100 Drivers, which is comparable to the 2008 entry and more than the 2007 one.

“So the 2009 European Super KF and KF1 Championship will place young Drivers in the spot¬lights – filmed by the cameras of Eurosport – and the basics of this Karting with its training and talent-spotting virtues will therefore again be in the foreground”, concluded the President of the CIK-FIA.

Further to the World Council’s decision to confirm the status of European Super KF & KF1 Championship, the entry procedure for the Championship is reopen until 22 March 2009.
