WSK International Karting Series Round 2 Preview

There are no previsions for the championship; everybody will run to be successful. Being the first round of the WSK International Karting Series already gone by, the chase for the titles has still to take shape and the drivers have only but one aim: a good score is required at the International Circuit Napoli, in Sarno (Salerno, Italy), to shoot headlong for the top places in the rankings. The meeting at the Campanian circuit, following just one month after the opening in Muro Leccese, is scheduled the next weekend from March 5th to 8th.

The setting where the circuit is located in Sarno speaks for itself. Placed on the provincial highway leading from Sarno to Palma Campania, the International Circuit Napoli has the Vesuvius in the background and its presence dominates over the 1699metre track that since 1999 has been hosting top international events. The sporting complex where WSK has planned to run the second 2009 round can host well a crowd of 5000 on its inviting stands that are served with a parking area covering 12000 sq.m. From these observation points it is possible to fully see the track where, in the next days, are going to arrive teams and drivers coming from all over the world.

At the circuit in province of Salerno, the classes KF2 and KF3 will run the second of the seven rounds scheduled for 2009 WSK. Besides these categories and with Super KF observing its first turn of rest, KZ2 will perform as top class at its season’s debut with a large group of champions: in the entry list, there are well 7 top drivers collecting all together the impressive number of 19 world titles. There is one standing out against all of them: it is Marco Ardigň (Tony KartVortexVega), the outgoing WSK champion in KZ2 that last season, just at the circuit in Sarno, won the title, prevailing over Belgian Jonathan Thonon (CRGMaxterVega). Another top driver belonging to the same class is Francesco Laudato (BirelTMVega), from Cava dei Tirreni, in province of Salerno, that right on the local circuit, intends to play the leading role, even more so.

Polish Karol Basz (RKParillaBridgestone) along with Dutch Nick De Vries (ZanardiParillaDunlop) leading the relative ranking in KF2 and KF3, are now the more representative drivers among a multicoloured number of people coming from all corners of the world. As a matter of fact, the 215 drivers entering this second round, will reach Sarno representing well 33 national flags coming from Asia, North and South America, besides Europe sure enough. But the multicoloured WSK paddock becomes ever more interesting if taking into account the team attendance.

At the WSK, a very interesting competition is sure enough taking place on a technologic level. In Sarno there will be as many as 37 karting makes, divided in 26 chassis manufacturers and 11 motor Factories, in addition to the three tyre suppliers Bridgestone, Dunlop and Vega. All of these companies decided to select the WSK as field of technologic expansion by their own works teams and satellite teams. In the EuroCup, a ranking conceived just for them, the hunt is on for the leading teams: in KF2, RK Kart Team by Savani Competition, managed by F.1 driver Robert Kubica, is at the top; while in KF3 the leader is Chiesa Corse, the official team by Zanardi chassis.

There is a wide range of options to follow WSK events. The entire weekend in Sarno can be followed at any time, on the real time window present on the official website http://www.wsk.it From this year, the lap time can be analyzed through the partial time “captured” in the three sectors the tracks are split up and published on the internet. If the web represents the instrument to follow live every race, the TV meeting is scheduled, as always, the week following the event, with the usual special report broadcast on the satellite channel and the digital TV.
