| 24 Hour Karting by Birel Set for March 28-29 |
| |
Recently, Birel officially presented the 2009 edition of its 24 Hour Karting, an event that has become an appointment not to be missed for many fans. The event, now in its 11th edition, will change location, transferring from the Jesolo track (that hosted 8 of the previous editions) to the one at Lignano Sabbiadoro, a very recent and innovative facility that will be able to offer extremely high standards in terms of driver services.
The Friulian track, in fact, is equipped with a large lane pit that will allow for functional management of the many pit stops that characterize the race as well as arranging 34 spots on the signalling wall to facilitate the work of the various team managers. The Birel group organizational machinery is already in full swing through its internal communication agency, Coordination Sport Event, and has already obtained various confirmations even for crews coming from Germany and Austria that will give the race an international character.
The race formula will be the same as it was for the previous editions, or more precisely, with kart supply (Birel N 35 with 4 stroke engine) and the assistance of Birel Motorsport, the Lissone company’s racing department. Registration will include all replacement parts and, for drivers who are without it, even the FIK licence and technical wear (helmet, jumpsuit and gloves). In terms of the licence, it must be said that a National licence will be sufficient and that the organization and the Italian Karting Federation are discussing the possibility of authorizing participation in the race starting at 15 years of age (it is currently set at 18).
Getting back to the services guaranteed to the teams, the “All Inclusive” formula will again be one of the strong points of the event that involves both expert drivers as well as novices with (at the most) some experience on indoor tracks.
The event format will remain unchanged: 34 teams each with a maximum of 10 drivers (the minimum is 4) will be admitted. On Saturday morning they will race in the free trials and the qualifiers, while the race will start at 13:00 (still on Saturday), concluding at the same time on Sunday, with no break. The organization is drawing up some agreements with the local hotels to facilitate the teams' stay, while on the track it will be possible to use a camper rental service as a logistical support for the team.
Registrations will open officially on Monday, January 19 and will close once the 34 available spots have been filled. In regards to the registration costs, for the 4th consecutive year the quote has been confirmed at 3,500 Euro per team. |
