Zaerodynamics will be hosting its fifth annual Indoor Karting Challenge on Friday, February 20, at Chicago Indoor Racing located in Buffalo Grove, IL. With a number of members in the karting community in the Chicago area for the Sodi Kart Expo International Show in St. Charles, IL for the weekend, it is the perfect time to strap on the helmet and get in some good racing while snow covers the Great Lakes area. The event is setup to be competitive, but friendly, with drivers ranging from racers to retailers, tuners to distributors.
In fact, anyone involved in the business that enjoys competition, hanging out with friends and colleagues and having a good time is more than welcome to join the event. The Mezzanine level at the Chicago Indoor Racing facility in Buffalo Grove gives an excellent opportunity to socialize while watching the race with new or current colleagues, entertain sponsors or just hang out with friends while taking in a few beverages or something to eat from their restaurant menu.
The event will be held on Chicago Indoor Racing’s track three layout, which at just under a 1/4 mile in length, produces lap times of just over 30 seconds for experienced drivers. Zaerodynamics will NOT be permitting regular CIR Endurance Teams to take part, although other teams are free to recruit regulars to join their team. The organizers reserve the right to refuse entry to teams stacked with CIR regulars.
Zaerodynamics Indoor Karting Challenge Format:
All teams must provide at least 2 drivers and no more than 6 drivers. All drivers must be at least eighteen (18) years of age - although drivers with prior experience at CIR in adult karts will be permitted to join teams. Teams will be given a 20-minute qualifying/timed practice session in the assigned kart. The fastest individual lap time for each team will determine the starting position for the main event. The last driver in practice however will take the green flag. The race will be 200 laps with a minimum of five driver changes and a pit stop to refuel per team. Driver changes and refueling strategies are up to each team.
Zaerodynamics Indoor Karting Challenge Time Schedule:
6:00pm: Arrival, Registration & Briefing: Once you arrive you must check in with reception. Once everyone has checked in there will be a Pre-Race Driver’s Meeting featuring detailed instruction of the track, the karts, race format and safety information.
7:00pm: Twenty minute qualifying/timed practice; fastest individual lap time will determine starting position for the 200 lap event
7:30pm: 200 lap main event begins; start by qualifying order with the last driver in practice taking the start
At the conclusion: Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams
eKartingNews.com will have full coverage of the event including an official event thread with updates from drivers at the event. Members of the eKartingNews.com/IndoorKartingNews.com squad will feature Howden Media Group owner Rob Howden, EKN News Desk Manager David Cole, and HMG partners Jim Smith and Jim Pauley strapping on the helmets and joining the racing festivities.

Chicago Indoor Racing has a zero tolerance policy on drinking or use of drugs prior to racing. Each guest will be provided with a wristband that will be cut off the minute that they ask for an alcoholic drink. After their wristband is removed, that guest will no longer be able to race but may participate in the gaming and billiards activities on the mezzanine level. |
