The Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series completed the 2008 season at the National Finals event, held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. There, five drivers earned the national championships for their outstanding performances on the year. Now, eKartingNews.com honors the top chassis in the Constructors’ Championship. For the third straight year, the CRG brand has won the honor of top constructor in the Stars of Karting program.
With the second best weekend total of their season, the CRG teams scored 64 points combined in the two final races in Vegas. Leading the way was the ICC duo of Gary Carlton (PCH Motorsports) and Michael Vincec (Cameron Motorsports). Carlton took home both victories with Vincec running third twice - earning himself the national championship. Aussie Scott Saunders (Cameron Motorsports) was fifth in both TaG finals to wrap up a solid debut year in the States. Joey Licata Jr. (TNR Motorsports) and Miles Maroney (Cameron Motorsports) each added a podium finish, Licata in TaG and Maroney in JICA.
Top Kart had all their eggs in two baskets - TaG and JICA - throughout the year and it paid off, finishing second overall and second at the Stars finale. Just five points back on the weekend total of CRG, Top Kart ended the season 31 points behind in the final standings. Double 1-2 finishes in TaG helped the blue stay up front with Team Top Kart USA/Kartel Motorsports’ Neil Alberico and Chris Scribner each taking home a win while Kyle Wiegand (Team Top Kart USA) was runner-up in both finals. New JICA national champion Brendan Phinny (Team Top Kart USA/Kartel Motorsports) used a fifth and a fourth to clinch the title and help Top Kart in the CC standings along with a podium run by Taylor Miinch (Team Top Kart USA).
Beside CRG, Tony Kart was the only other chassis to score points in each of the three divisions, thanks in part to their new additions. Alex Speed (ICC) and Will Martindale (TaG) moved to the Tony Kart brand last month and their runner-up and ninth place finishes respectively helped the ‘mean green’ score the third highest total on the weekend. In JICA, Gustavo Menezes was first and fifth while Tatiana Calderon was sixth twice, bring the weekend total to 48 and keeping Tony Kart fourth in the overall standings.
Fourth on the weekend was the Kosmic make with J3 Competition’s Victor Cabrera, Angel Caban, and Tristan DeGrand earning points. Cabrera was eighth and seventh, enough to crown him the Stars TaG national champion. Caban ran second in the opening final and earned his first Stars victory in the second, where DeGrand was a close second. Their weekend total was enough to hold on to the fifth position to end the season.
Intrepid completed the weekend top-five with five different drivers contributing to their 18 points. Cody Jolly (Champion Racing) ran tenth in the opening ICC final while Joey Wimsett (Champion Racing) finished in the same spot in the second TaG final. Mason Marotta (Leading Edge Motorsports) scored the seventh spot in both JICA finals with Brett Felkins (Leading Edge Motorsports) running fourth in the opening race and Timmy Bachman (Leading Edge Motorsports) muscling up to tenth in the second race. Finishing second last year, Intrepid will settle for third in 2008 overall.
GP had great performances from Ron White in ICC and Jason Toft in TaG to place sixth on the weekend that moved them from tenth overall to ninth. Italkart was seventh on the weekend with 15 points, the same position in the overall standings. Sodi Kart was eighth in Vegas but held to sixth in the final rankings. Completing the top-ten were Energy with nine points and Birel with five, moving them to 11th and 12th in the total behind First Kart - who did not field a kart at the National Finals.

EKN Constructors’ Championship - Stars of Karting
The EKN Constructors' Championship is calculated using only top ten finishes in the ICC, Stars TaG and JICA divisions. Each constructor will count their top two finishes in each class.
