The Snap-on Stars of Karting divisional schedules will come to a close following this weekend’s Western Division Finale in Seattle, Washington. Situated on a temporary circuit in the suburb of Sumner, the final five divisional champions will be crown before gearing up for the National Finals set for Las Vegas in October.
The temp circuit is due to the delay in the construction of the new Pacific Grand Prix kart track at the Pacific Raceway facility. Stars officials built many contingency plans, including moving to other cities, other locations in Seattle, however many circumstances and with many competitors with travel plans set for the Seattle area officials decided to keep the event in the general area of the original location.
The course will be adjacent to an 800,000 square foot industrial park with excellent surface. The design measures out to roughly 6/10-mile with a 625 foot straightaway. The nine corner course will be more compact providing for tight, good quality racing. The Stars officials are no stranger to temporary circuits with tracks in Toronto, Las Vegas, and the popular PRI Trade Show in Orlando all providing exciting racing.

This season has been a stellar one for ICC pilot Michael Vincec. The Canadian has competed both here on the national level and overseas in the European Championship, finding success on both continents. Already claiming the Eastern Division title, Vincec heads into the weekend tied for the lead with former ICA National Champion and fellow countrymen Jordy Vorrath. Vincec, piloting a Cameron Motorsports CRG, currently owns the tie breaker with one victory however Vorrath, aboard a Champion Racing Intrepid, is known for his skills on the slick and tight temp circuits.
Still not out of the chase is the reigning Florida Winter Tour champion and newly crowned Canadian National Champion Fritz Leesmann. The Californian running under the PSL Karting/Kohilo Racing banner traveled north of the border two weeks ago to bring home the title. Thirty markers back of the lead duo, Leesmann will look for his best weekend of the year to try and steal the Western crown. It has not been a good year for two-time defending national champion Gary Carlton on his home soil. Running back and forth from Europe to the States, Carlton has been fast all year but the gremlins have given him three DNFs on the year, including an uncharacteristic two in the Race of the Americas finals. Forty-one points back and a chance at two more wins, the PCH Motorsports/SSC East CRG driver still has a shot at the Western and national championships. Sitting fifth in the standings heading to Seattle is Cody Jolly in the Champion Racing/Intrepid USA entry just 50 points back.

 | In JICA, Phil De La O will look to earn two more victories to clinch the Western championship
(Photo: On Track Promotions - otp.ca) |
With a perfect score when counting the drop race heading into Seattle, Phil De La O leads the JICA Western championship. The Advanced Karting Tony Kart pilot will look to earn the second straight for the Tony Kart brand following his double wins at the Race of the Americas and opening Final at the Western opener. He leads last year’s Western Champion Gustavo Menezes and Brendan Phinny. Menezes has spent the season bouncing back and forth from home to Europe and while the Tony Kart USA driver split wins with De La O in Utah, it was only two top-ten runs in Indiana. Phinny, in his Team Top Kart USA entry, has been a consistent top-five runner and will look to earn his first win of the season in Seattle. After starting out the season with FirstKart.com, Miles Maroney switched to the Cameron Motorsports stable aboard a CRG prior to the Race of the Americas. The change resulted in two top-five finishes. The Californian will have to match his double win weekend he had last year at the Western finale at the now past Moran Raceway to help his cause at becoming the divisional champ. Coming off his first Stars win in Shawano and a stellar IKF Grand Nationals where he earned three prestigious Duffy’s, Taylor Miinch will need to continue on the hot streak to cut into the near 100-point deficit.
