eKartingNews.com United States Rotax Driver Rankings - 2012 Final Standings
 


The 2012 season signaled a partnership between MAXSpeed and eKartingNews.com, bringing about new article series focused on the promotion of the United States Rotax Max Challenge program. Among that was the addition of the eKartingNews.com United States Rotax Driver Rankings. Taking over the USRMC National Point Standings, EKN combined that system with its own ‘Driver Rankings’ formula to create a new program for the 2012 season.

The EKN United States Rotax Driver Rankings tabulates the best six results for each USRMC driver in each of the six Rotax categories, using a weighted point system that increases based on event participation. Now that the season is completed, EKN is happy to highlight the top-10 drivers in each category, while also recognizing the #1 driver in each class heading into the 2013 season.




Senior Max

Senior Max is the top level in the United States Rotax Max Challenge program with 174 drivers competing in programs across the country. The Northwest Gold Cup was among the most populated in the category, and has six drivers representing the series for 2012, including the number one position. Three of the top-10 are returning drivers, while two are of the Masters age, racing against the young drivers for more competition.

DD2/DD2 Masters

The DD2 race package continues to find its place in the United States market. Thanks in part to the Rotax Grand Finals including the DD2 Masters division, the numbers have increased and should in the years to come as the category becomes more popular around the county. Numbers did increase during the 2012 season from a year ago, with another increase expected in 2013. Six new drivers enter the top-10, as five different USRMC programs are represented; Racing the Rockies (three times), Dallas Karting Complex (twice), Southeast Karting Challenge (twice), MRP (twice), and F1 New Jersey.

As with most categories in the Rotax Max Challenge program, the Masters Max division is also seeing increase in numbers across the country. The 2012 season saw a 15% increase in participation, as 123 drivers recorded results. Six different USRMC programs are represented in the top-10, separated by less than 100 points. F1 New Jersey and MRP series stand strong with three drivers each in the top-10. Sanzaru NorCal, Racing the Rockies, North Florida and Northwest Gold Cup round out the other series, hitting all four corners of the country. Four drivers return from last year’s standings, including top driver from a year ago John Bonanno.

The Junior Max division continues to stake the claim as the most competitive category in the United States Rotax Max Challenge with a large amount of talented drivers. At the year’s end, 177 drivers contested events in the 2012 season, a strong increase from a year ago. Another statistic to back up the statement is the difference in just the top-10, as they ended the year within 53 points of one another. The top of the Driver Rankings is dominated by North Florida drivers, including four, along with Northeast representing three, and the Northwest Gold Cup promoting two drivers in addition to one Sanzura NorCal driver. New York driver Gavin Reichelt - second place in last years standings - is the only returning driver in 2012.

The second class for the EKN US Rotax Driver Rankings is the Mini Max division. A total of 88 drivers recorded results in 2012 for the class reserved for drivers 9-12 years old. Just 81 points separate the top-10, making it the second-closest standings of the six USRMC groups. Six different USRMC programs are represented in the top-10, with MRP at Palm Beach promoting three drivers while MRP at Palm Beach and Powerade Carolina each have two. The only driver to return to the top-10 from the 2011 season is Idaho driver Sting Ray Robb.

The first step in the Rotax Max Challenge program is the Micro Max category, with a plentiful list of drivers ages 8 to 10 years old. The class increased to 88 drivers recording results in the 2012 season, while welcoming 22 of them at the United States Grand Nationals. Seven different USRMC programs are represented in the top-10, with North Florida, South Florida and Racing the Rockies represented by two drivers. 51 drivers competed in six or more events on the season.
