Michiana Raceway Park is happy to announce the Pat Delahanty Memorial Hard Charger award for the 2012 kart racing season to local racer, Aidan Harrington. Mike and Marge Delahanty of Novi, Michigan pledge a $1,000 award in memory of their son, Pat Delahanty (March 31, 1981 – May 7, 2007), and embody the spirit of karting as a family sport.

“Pat and Mike came to us as a father & son team and took a racing school to help build a bonding experience for them,” remarked Garry Lobaugh, President of MRP Motorsport. “What the Delahanty family found was a “hooked on life” experience that evolved in dedicated support of a family karting program that resulted in Pat becoming a karting champion and a racing school instructor for MRP Speed Schools. He displayed a “never give up” attitude that can only be described as being a hard charger.”

Pat was well regarded by his fellow racers as a true sportsman and caring individual for others, showing little jubilation in success and quiet resolution in defeat. Regardless of the adversity on track or with his equipment, Pat always gave it his best effort with little complaint or attitude. Over a ten-year period Pat was an integral part of the MRP team in Austin, TX, South Bend, IN and Rolling Green Raceway in Buchanan, MI.

“Pat was a true racing success following his experience through his learning experiences with MRP and his actions as a coach and instructor,” continued Lobaugh. “He found a purpose in life through his karting career.”

In memory of his attributes and accomplishments, Pat’s parents, Marge and Mike, have donated a $1,000 prize for a racer who displayed the attributes of what makes a “Hard Charger”.

Michiana Raceway Park was happy to give this award in 2012 to Aidan Harrington. Aidan is the son of David and Julissa Harrington of Des Plaines, IL. He began karting like most, at an indoor facility (Chicago Indoor Karting) with his older brother. He began outdoor karting in the Kid Kart class at age 5 was a quick study after moving to the Novice Yamaha class. He now competes in the Rotax MicroMax class. Aiden’s older brother, Brennan, competes in Rotax Senior and recently was awarded runner-up in the Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shootout.
