J.P. Southern Jr. on pole in Yamaha Sportsman

Checkered Motorsports was no stranger in the Daytona International Speedway where the team snatched a total of six podiums finishes and a pole position in Yamaha Sportsman. The team proved that they can handle both wet and dry conditions.

The team demonstrated that their sportsman program is one to watch after a strong performance by J.P. Southern Jr. who snatched a total of four podiums finishes and a pole position in Yamaha Sportsman 2. In Komet Sportsman Southern Jr. put on a show, after not completing a lap in qualifying the young driver maneuvered his way through the field to finish fourth after qualifying 21st. Yamaha Sportsman 1 and 2 the young pilot proved showed consistency as he placed 4th in both days. The MCR powered Cadet engine showed speed throughout the weekend with Southern Jr. finishing fourth and ninth during the weekend.

The TaG field in the Checkered Motorsports tent exposed consistency and speed. Five time national champion, Robert Bujdoso, had a solid run finishing fourth and fifth in the competitive Parilla class. Senior rookie, Andrew Bujdoso, would have his best finish in TaG 2 with an eighth place finish. Although A. Bujdoso had times capable to run in the top ten in Parilla, he would only manage two top 15 finishes. Oliver Scigliano making his first debut in the Daytona International Speedway circuit made improvements throughout the weekend. After not running Saturday’s event due to the flu, the young driver would have to settle with a DNF in TaG 2 and a 27th in Parilla 2.

In TaG masters Tom Gerstner once again showed consistency and posted a 13th and 12th place finish aboard his RoK TT.

“We had a great weekend,” stated Csaba Bujdoso. “We showed the speed in all classes that we entered in and most of all our drivers had a great time under the tent!”

The team will be contesting in the Florida Winter Tour, WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, Great Lakes Sprint Series, USPKC Series, and the Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Tech support, transportation, and arrive and drive opportunities are available.
